Murder Suspect Hangs Himself During SWAT Standoff

A SWAT situation at the Windsor Estate Apartments on FM 2004 in Texas City that started when officers attempted to arrest a murder suspect has ended with the suspect dead and his girlfriend in custody.

It began around 10:15 Wednesday morning and ended about three hours later.

After negotiations failed, the SWAT team used tear gas. The man’s girlfriend whom police say was an active participant came out of a bedroom where the two were barricaded and was arrested. Police had first thought she was a hostage.

The suspect was found hanging in a closet. Attempts to revive him failed.

He was wanted for a murder of Jesus Leal Valdez, 41, of Pasadena.

His body was found last weekend buried beneath a chicken coop in northeast Harris County. He had been missing since New Year’s Eve.
