H.I.S.D. Bans Four Mascots Deemed Offensive

The Lamar HS Washington Football Team – Outta here!

The Welch MS Warriors – Outta here!

The Westbury HS Rebels – Outta here!

The Hamilton MS Indians – Outta here!

All of them will have to come up with new mascots after the Houston I.S.D. school board gave final approval Thursday to a policy banning nicknames deemed offensive.

The school principals will have the next several months to work with the community to adopt new mascots, said HISD spokeswoman Tiffany Davila-Dunne.
