Power Season 3, Episode 301 "Call Me James" Recap

ower is officially back y’all, and we are so damn excited!

Let’s step into the season premiere now shall we? Season 3 opens up with Ghost no no we mean James beginning his new-found life out of the game. James and Angela make their grand entrance into truth, things are much different now that James and Angela no longer have to sneak around. Tasha is out of the picture, James has laid Ghost to rest Angela no longer has a care in the world, well at least she thinks.

James isn’t the only one embracing a new role, his former partner/brother Tommy is now the head guy in charge.

Last season we found out that Tommy isn’t willing to let the drug game and annoying ass Holly go so easily.

He struck a deal with Lobos as well in order to maintain his flow of product to keep in him in business. The catch is that Tommy has to cancel Christmas on Ghost or not only will he not get any product, his family will be erased as well.

Holly is still annoying and still very much bored just being cooped up in Tommy’s apartment cause that’s just the Holly we have come to know.

She insists that Tommy gives her something to do to make herself useful but all he wants his very eager and nosy girlfriend to do is lay low and feed the dog. Of course Holly isn’t trying to hear that but has no choice but to listen for now. Tommy and Holly’s little spat is interrupted by a phone call from Julio, looks like Tommy is being thrown into the fire when it comes to being the boss. Tommy and Julio run to a little dispute between rival drug factions, the wolves are now starving because product is low and Ruiz is gone.

Tommy doing his best Michael Jackson impersonation from the “Beat It” video tries to calm down the situation.

Tommy tries to negotiate a truce between them, but unfortunately they were not trying to hear his white ass and the knives came out.

YES we said knives, definitely felt like a scene out of West Side Story. Anyway what the poor guy doesn’t realize is that Tommy isn’t a damn punk. He is the one you should always fear, that one crazy white boy that hangs in the hood. Tommy quickly dispatches homeboy with knife and a brawl ensues. Magically the cops show up in record time to defuse the situation and they all scatter like roaches when the light is cut on. Well Tommy you want to be the boss this is what the boss has to deal with.

Tommy’s former partner Ghost  oops we forgot James isn’t walking the straight path alone. With Tommy no longer by his side, the young go-getter Dre has stepped up become Ghost’s protegé.

Dre is very eager to get to work and make some real money, but he’s still not to keen with the fact of making the money slowly and in a legit fashion. James breaks it down to Dre how the club business works as opposed to the drug game. Dre daps it up with his new boss and calls him Ghost, it’s there Dre realizes the James is seriously out the game when James tells him to forget the name Ghost.

After his meeting with Dre, James takes a look at the bloody La Loteria card he was leaving as calling cards that mysteriously wound up in desk. Hmmmm must be still wondering if Lobos is alive or not.

James goes outside for a breath of fresh air, he looks up and notices Tommy across the street staring at him.

The very intense stare down is interrupted by a text from Angela asking James where he is. Once James looks back across the street, Tommy is gone and heads home unable to complete his task of killing Ghost. James links back up with Angela in his office inside Truth. Now you know this wouldn’t be an official episode of Power without a routine Ghost and Angela sex scene.

The focus now shifts on Tasha and James son Tariq who are mourning the death of Shawn.

Poor Riq😦. The young man is deeply bothered by the loss of the Shawn and wants to know exactly what happened to him. Tasha tells her young son that the police have not yet contacted her about exactly what happened to her young boo thing. But in the back of her mind though she has her suspicions as to who killed Shawn.

No longer in his luxurious and super spacious apartment, James is still getting used to his new living arrangements with Angela.

The couple seems to be ready to take things to the next level as James proposes that they eventually move into a bigger apartment. Angela then reveals that she is going to request for a department change, we all know the main reason for that *coughs* Greg. In doing so though she would be working more hours, James is also putting in more time working now that he runs not one but THREE clubs. Angela then tells James that she thinks it’s time to meet his kids. Whenever James is ready to take that step that is and James is totally is on board for that idea.

At the same time we couldn’t help but think Tasha’s reaction would instantly be like this at thought of her kids meeting their dad’s mistress/girlfriend.

We finally catch up with Greg and boy is he a mess. Still reeling after Angela lied on him and got him suspended, he is even more focused on proving she is fraud and is in cahoots with Ghost.

Despite the sound advice from Saxe urging Greg to move on and let the case go, Greg is now more determined than ever to clear his name and bring down Ghost.

Kantos looks to get back on James good side after initially betraying him and deciding to work with Stern.

Kantos manages to lift Stern’s V.I.P. list and shares it with James, he appreciates the gesture by Kantos but you can clearly tell he doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Dre walks in and the meeting quickly ends, before Kantos is able to leave James informs him he will be accompanied by Andre to his new club Verbatim and he is to show him around. Kantos pretty much knows his time maybe drawing to an end and leaves the room discouraged.

Dre jumps right into expressing his frustration with going the straight and narrow. Dre explains to James that his intention was to only look clean, but not actually go clean. Dre still wants to move weight and was looking to instantly fill the role Tommy once had working with Ghost. James once again breaks it down to Dre that the club is the hustle now, that the drug game is over for them.

James took Dre under his wing to give him better options but Dre doesn’t want to hear it. The streets is where he feels he truly belongs and Dre has other plans in mind when it comes to getting paid.

Angela makes her pitch to Mike to transfer divisions or to another district. With the threat of Greg coming back looming over head and of course dealing with James she feels it’s time for a fresh start. Mike on the other hand thinks other wise and denies her request.

He tells her he needs her on the Lobos task force, he reveals Lobos is conscious and they are still proceeding with the case.But we know he’s got something up his sleeve.

James on the other hand is putting his detective skills to work trying to figure out who exactly left the card on his desk. James combs over surveillance footage showing a young woman named Tatiana Boriskaya who works for him leaving the message for him.

James is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. Meanwhile Mike, Angela and Saxe meet with the judge and Lobos’ lawyer regarding the case. Lobos’ attorney asks the judge to dismiss all federal charges and he be extradited to Mexico since he was attacked in their custody.

Saxe comes up with the idea that the government should keep the notion going that Lobos is indeed dead and that the case should be tried as John Doe prosecution in order to protect Lobos from any harm. Angela makes a compelling argument for the motion and the judge agrees. When the meeting is over Angela asks Mike if she can go with him to interrogate Lobos. Mike tells her that he will get back to her.

James heads to Tasha’s crib to have some words with her. Tasha thought he was coming to speak to her about Shawn but he’s there to speak about Angela and her meeting the kids. Tasha’s immediate reaction was basically:

Tasha wasn’t here for any of it, she immediately jumps on James for not being there to help her break the news of Shawn’s death to the kids. She then becomes even more suspicious when she notices the scars on James face and asks them how did he get them.

James is not to happy to hear that Tasha thinks he’s behind Shawn’s death insisting to his now estranged wife that he sent him away.

Tasha of course doesn’t believe him and rightfully so James has been lying to her ass for quite some time now. James tells Tasha that Kanan was behind Shawn’s death and that his scars came from scuffle with Kanan in which he thinks he killed him. We know that to be false, and he also tells Tasha that Lobos is dead as well and we also know that to be false. He most importantly tells her that he’s out the game,Tasha is still very reluctant to believe James but he insists he is telling the truth and Tommy of all people can vouch for him.

Tommy is out building relationships with the different factions in the city. Now that he’s in charge and Ghost is gone it’s time to make sure they know who is still running things.

His last meeting with Koreans was very interesting. The son of the head honcho recognizes Tommy and asks him about Ghost. Tommy reveals he doesn’t run with him anymore and the leader reveals that he doesn’t “like doing business with niggers, can’t trust them”.

On that note Tommy leaves but he is now officially set up and good to go. James on the other hand is not feeling quite safe anymore. He decides to hire some top-notch security for the clubs composed of former military men . He ensures James that he is worth every penny and will keep James and his club safe.

Angela is still worried about Greg, but it looks like that he is not the only person she will have to look out for.

Saxe puts her on notice and tells her that if she does anything to jeopardize his career he is going to make sure that Angela goes down with him.

Tasha seeks out Tommy looking for the truth about Shawn’s death and decides to head to his apartment.

She catches him walking out of his building and immediately informs him about Shawn getting killed. Tommy also backs up James story confirming that he was with him the night of Shawn’s murder. He also confirms that James did “kill” Kanan easing Tasha’s suspicions of her estranged husband. Tasha tries to get more answers out of Tommy but to no avail he’s wants nothing to do with them.

Greg clearly got time and he is dead set on clearing his name and bringing down Angela and Ghost in the process. Greg visits Truth to have a small conversation with Kantos about Tommy and James.

Kantos quickly shuts that down by telling Greg that he hasn’t seen Tommy in a long time and that any questions about James he can ask the man himself. Kantos gets the message and leaves Truth.

Mike pays a visit to his boss Jefe in the hospital, his greeting wasn’t as warm as he would like as Lobos tries to attack with a scalpel to get some answers.

Lobos wants to know why he isn’t being extradited to Mexico as planned. Mike tells him he tried to lose the argument with the judge on purpose but he couldn’t control her. He didn’t mention that Saxe and Angela made some very compelling arguments as to why his ass should stay in the states. Jefe also wants to know why his assets are frozen and Mike explains to him that they government wants it to look like he is dead. Mike also tells Lobos that after he frees him that he and Lobos will done no longer have any ties. Lobos of course doesn’t agree with that and asks Mike why would he let go his own U.S. District Attorney that’s in his back pocket? Lobos also inquires if Ghost still has Angela in his back pocket ? Mike tells him that yes they are still dating and that Angela asked to sit in on their interrogation. Jefe agrees to it, he wants to test Angela and see if she handle the pressure. Mike tells him to not doing anything to Angela as it can ruin his plan to damage the case cause she is important to the plan.

Ghost is still searching for Tatiana and heads to her apartment to look for her for some answers.

Unfortunately for James she is not home, BUT James ever so clever observes the doorman’s break schedule and decides to come back another time.

Angela and Mike interrogate Lobos face to face finally. Lobos immediately tests Angela character by trying to insult her but she doesn’t even blink at his insults.

Seeing that Angela is tougher than he thought Lobos finally decides to comply. He convinces Angela that he believes the Jemenez are behind the attempt on his life even though he knows it was Ghost. Speaking of Ghost he returns back to Tatiana’s apartment building but this time he has a plan.

Knowing exactly what time the doorman goes on his Newport break, James jogs right past him through the back door into the building.

He makes his way upstairs to her apartment where he makes a grizzly discovery.

It appears someone has already taken her out, basically tying up the loose ends on their end. So much for getting information out of her.

We catch back up with Tommy who appears to be getting ready for some sort of extracurricular activities involving bubble wrap. Holly walks in carrying stashes that both him and Ghost left scattered across the city in case sh*t hits the fan. 

Holly is excited she finally got to do something, the two then begin to engage in a little raunchy activity. Before they can get down to business Tommy’s phone rings. It’s Jefe on the line and he’s got a message for Tommy, basically telling him to rub out Ghost A.S.A.P. or there will be dire consequences.

Back at the St.Patrick’s residence Tasha and James take time to talk to the kids to give them an explanation as to what happened to Shawn.

The kids still are slow to grasp the situation, things get really tense when their daughter asks why James is not coming home. Dinner quickly comes to an end, James assures Tasha that they will understand eventually. She tells Ghost that she hopes he’s right, James then replies to Tasha that she doesn’t have call him Ghost anymore call him James.

Remember all that bubble wrap we saw Tommy packing up earlier? Well this is what he was using it for.

To put fear in the jokers he almost got into a knife fight with earlier in the episode he wraps them up in bubble wrap to cushion their fall from the roof. Tommy is here to send a clear message that he’s in charge and not Ghost but Julio is not here for his reckless methods. During the whole ordeal Tommy decides to reveal his face to let them know who’s running things. After Tommy pushes both men off the roof Julio makes the mistake of mentioning Ghost’s name and Tommy loses it. He goes full Dylan on Julio and chokes him out warning him to never say the name Ghost to him ever again or face the consequences. 

Fresh off his choking by Tommy, Julio runs to Truth to talk to Ghost damn we mean James. Unfortunately for James Angela peeped Julio and his insanely large 718 gang tattoo on his neck approaching him. The two head into James office to talk in private.

Julio explains to James that Tommy is off the chains now and that if he keeps this behavior up that he’s going to get them all killed. James is no longer in the game so he doesn’t care what Tommy does anymore and reiterates to Julio that he’s strictly a nightclub owner now. Extremely disappointed that the man who got him in the game is abandoning him, Julio decides to leave. Not before he reveals that he has to do a pickup in Elizabeth, James immediately realizes they are still working for Lobos which means he might not be dead.

 Angela is still suspicious after witnessing Julio and James encounter in Truth the other night. She decides to put her detective hat on again because she clearly recognized Julio. She goes back in some old files and pulls out a picture of Julio and Tommy together.

Ahhhhh man something else for to press James about when she sees him at home.

Andre for some strange reason doesn’t own a tie so he goes into James desk looking for one. Not only does he find a tie to wear but he also discovers the bloody card in the drawer. Before he can get caught looking at it, James walks in and he quickly gathers himself. James is clearly spooked now after his conversation with Julio and asks Dre if still has his gun on him. Dre of course never leaves home without his piece and reassured James of that.

Now for one of the huge moments of the episode, during a meeting about the launch of J.S.P. nightlife Ghost reveals he is looking for a general manager to help run all three of his nightclubs. He calls Kantos to the front and it looks like he’s about promote him.

Insteaaaaddddddd James completely blindsided Kantos and fires him in front of everyone making him look like a complete fool.

Now we don’t feel sorry for Kantos at all but he was definitely on the verge of telling James that Greg stopped by asking questions. Now we don’t know what Kantos will do now that he’s fired and was completely embarrassed by him.

Tommy’s little show of power by throwing those poor saps off the roof seems to have worked. All of the other factions are falling into line and won’t dare to question Tommy. Tommy then turns to Julio and tells him to keep the fact Lobos is alive between the two of them and to never second guess him ever again. Julio agrees but definitely looks like he still wants nothing to do with Tommy and how he runs things.

Angela is now super suspicious of her reformed boyfriend James once again as she fears Ghost isn’t as dead he says he is. Over some reheated Chinese takeout, Angela decides to ask James about Julio and why was he at the club that night. James finally breaks down and reveals that he saved Julio from the gang and that Julio used to work for him. Angela of course loses it thinking James lied again but James reveals that he came there to find out if he was truly out the game or not that’s it. James gives Angela the trust speech and it instantly works on her.

Since they were being honest with each other Angela reveals to James that Lobos is not dead confirming his fears. Angela unfortunately tells James that Lobos believes the Jemenez were behind the attempt on his life not him and that he is safe. “Ghost really is dead”.

We focus back on Tommy who comes home with a box of pizza for him and Holly. He notices it’s unusually quiet as the dog isn’t barking nor did Holly greet him at the door. Tommy notices a trail of blood on the floor leading into the bathroom and we immediately think Lobos got to Holly. Tommy bends down and reveals the victim to be:

Oh nooooo not the dog, we cannot lie we really wished Holly bit the bullet but oh well.

Lobos isn’t playing with Tommy and now the pressure is on him to kill Ghost now more than ever. We zap back to James and Angela and they are both in bed and we are going to assume after a round of intense sex. Angela wakes up and goes in the bathroom, James reaches over in his jacket pocket and pulls out the bloody card.Now knowing the job on Lobos failed he makes a call to Tommy.

He doesn’t use James either when he leaves a message he says it’s Ghost! WELCOME BACK POWER!

Oh we cannot wait till next weeks episode, looks like we are in for one hell of a season!
